I’m not a big card game player, but I do love Keyforge. It’s a silly and fun game with a positive community where I’ve met amazing friends. Something else I love about it is the art, particularly the neat creatures that show up in house Untamed.
There’s a new expansion for the game out on July 10th, and one of the new cards is the FLOOMF.
When I saw this card I thought I MUST attempt to make a plush of this. So I did!
The head and body are basically the same pattern, but the body is slightly larger. It’s a pair of rounded triangles with darts at the top for roundness, and an oval creating the bottom.
The tail and feet are just what they look like, nothing fancy. The ears were done in four parts: the fold inside and outside, and the back inside and outside. All four pieces were sewn together and the folded part was tacked down with hand sewing. The wings were also very straightforward.
The embroidery I designed in InkStitch. The proportions had to be modified a bit from the original art because the set of smaller eyes would not be able to be sewn that small. They just would not come out right.
There’s also thread sculpting, which is new for me! I did some thread sculpting between the eyes to bring the eyes to the front a bit and create a bit of a nose bridge. The paw toes are also thread sculpted. All of this is unfortunately very hard to see because of the black fabric.
Speaking of the fabric, it’s Shannon Luxe Seal faux fur in black, as well as Shannon Cuddle Smooth in black for the ears and wings. The Seal length faux fur was tricky to work with, but it’s so soft and wonderful to touch.
I had a lot of fun with this and would love to try making more Keyforge critters when the new set comes out! See you in the Crucible!
